Starbucksreportedly used to sell trenta Frappuccinos, but no longer does - probably because 31 ounces of the sweet drinks would be probably be pretty irresponsible. Just days after the Philippines has seen its first live mollusk "unicorn,"Starbucks kicks off Frappuccino season with a new mythically inspired drink: the Unicorn Frappuccino.
At least now I have an idea of what a unicorn tastes like. It makes me want to curl up in a ball and hibernate until Tom Brady retires from the National Football League at age 53. It's finished with vanilla whipped cream and a sprinkle of sweet pink and sour blue powder topping.
With newspapers reporting that people are "freaking out" over the rainbow-colored drinks, I expected there to be a line out the door, and maybe a special section inside, reserved for Instagramming.
Yum! Mango syrup and a pleasant sour blue drizzle? I checked in the mirror just to be sure. The new drink comes at a sensitive time for Starbucks, with a new chief executive at the helm and a sales slowdown in 2016 that came amidst an unpopular change in its loyal program. However, once you get stirring, it changes to pink and takes on a tangy twist. Wrong again, impatient, coffee consumer.
As otherworldly as the latest incarnation of the crème Frappuccino sounds, it's only one of many Unicorn-themed eats and drinks that have overrun Instagram.
They both seemed pleasantly surprised by the limited edition drink and said it was not what they expected.
But let's talk about what you here to read about, what the hell did this colour explosion of a flavoured, chilled beverage based on a mythical creature taste like? It is real! Montreal Starbucks are now carrying the Unicorn Frappuccino.
However, instead of chucking the beverage, I stirred the Frappuccino and hoped for a transformation. Surprisingly, it is also lower in calories than you would expect.
It's early. I haven't had breakfast yet. Yet as photos of the drink make their way across the internet, the question remains - how does the beverage taste? That's what this tastes like. It's appearing through April 23 or until supplies last.
