Caller AJ: 'Drug taking league players should be dropped'

NZ captain Jesse Bromwich runs on to the field before the Anzac Test

Bromwich had already announced he would step down as New Zealand Test captain, with his Melbourne Storm NRL club banning him for two NRL matches and dropping him from its leadership group.

Kiwis coach David Kidwell said the pair, who have been accused of purchasing and consuming cocaine, had broken his trust and the trust of their teammates.

"I can't express my disappointment enough in their actions in the early hours of Saturday morning", he said.

"No one is bigger than the team".

Kiwis forwards Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor have been axed from the Kiwis for the Rugby League World Cup after being caught up in rugby league's latest drugs scandal.

New Zealand Rugby League plans to meet with Kiwi League team management, senior players and key NZRL staff this week.

Kevin Proctor has also stood down from his role as co-captain of the Titans.

Bromwich and Proctor had been in the Australian capital to play the annual Anzac Test against the Kangaroos, which the Kiwis resoundingly lost.

The World Cup runs from 27 October to 2 December.

Bromwich's absence will be a huge blow to the Kiwis' chances in the World Cup. Proctor has said he was too drunk to remember the incident and he could not deny the allegations.

Hayton said he was fully supportive of the stance taken by Kidwell.

A Canberra man appeared in court today over the alleged sale of cocaine and was granted bail over drug supply.

But according to court documents from Crowther's appearance, CCTV allegedly captured Crowther preparing a white substance on his phone in Canberra's Petrie Plaza, near Cube Nightclub about 5.10am on Saturday.

Jesse Bromwich captained the Kiwis in their test against Australia and has had a long standing career in league with the Melbourne Storm.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley on Sunday said he would reach out to the governing body over why there wasn't stricter supervision of players whilst on representative duties.

The NRL stars had left the scene by the time Police arrived and are yet to be charged, but were named in court.
