According to Showbuzz Daily, this week's "Smackdown Live" drew a.68 rating and 2.175 million viewers, down 8% and 7% from last week's respective numbers.
We kick off the show with Kevin Owens' Highlight Reel. Jinder Mahal then emerged and went on to have a bout with Styles.
Mahal's enjoying the form of his career but will hope to come out of this match unscathed before his showdown against Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. Kevin Owens, who was on commentary during the match, uses this opportunity to hit Styles' leg with his United States title, giving Mahal the chance to take over.
Owens will also be in the ring tonight but not in the role you'd expect. This allowed Mahal to connect with the Cobra Clutch slam to pick up a huge win ahead of Backlash PPV.
Fandango pinned Epico after hitting the Falcon Arrow before being interrupted by their opponents at Backlash - the WWE SmackDown Live Tag team champions, The USOS who sent out the second straight warning to the Fashion Police duo. Naomi hits Tamina with a wrecking ball dropkick and Carmella takes advantage to win the match with a roll-up. Randy Orton in a non-title match.
Past year at Backlash, AJ Styles won his first-ever WWE Championship, which made him the first wrestler to hold world titles in WWE, TNA and NJPW, so this is definitely a special PPV for "The Phenomenal One". But tonight on SmackDown Live, those six women will participate in a contract signing, which will presumably end with all of them brawling in the ring after officially putting their names on the dotted line.
Backstage - Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin: Announcing that McMahon has granted him a match against Corbin at Backlash, Zayn began ranting about why Corbin was scared of him. WWEBacklash 2017 is set for Sunday night in Rosemont, Illinois at the Allstate Arena with a few new faces set to compete in some of the card's biggest matches. It is going to take place on Sunday, May 21.
