14 students, 2 drivers injured in hit-and-run school bus crash

Hiller said most of the students were headed to the Lancaster campus; one was going to the Locust Grove campus. The driver tried to pass the tractor-trailers in the westbound lane, but veered back into the eastbound lane after seeing the approaching westbound school bus. The auto hit the escort vehicle, which caused it to, in turn, hit the school bus.

A 6-year-old boy who was ejected and pinned under the bus remains in critical but stable condition at a children's hospital in Philadelphia.

The 14 students, the bus driver and another driver were all taken to Lancaster General Hospital.

Emergency responders in Lancaster County said the accident involving a Lancaster Mennonite school bus bringing students to school occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday in East Lampeter Township.

Schreffler says that this is the point of Route 30 that goes from 2 lanes down to one. While the patient had "some improvement", Lancaster County District Attorney's Office spokesman Brett Hambright said this morning the boy is still "struggling for his life". One of the students suffering from a traumatic injury was airlifted to a local children's hospital.

Police were looking for a light-colored sedan with front bumper damage.

"We want to have a conversation with this driver", Hambright said. The injured include the 14 students, the bus driver, and the driver of another vehicle involved in the crash.

"Thank you for your prayers as our school community continues to heal, physically and emotionally, from Wednesday's bus accident".

"School is operating normally, although prayer and support will be infused throughout the day". Anyone with information is asked to call East Lampeter police at 717-291-4676. School counselors are available, as always, to help in times of crisis.
