MLB Reduces Bryce Harper's Suspension To Three Games

Washington Nationals' Bryce Harper (34) charges San Francisco Giants' Hunter Strickland after being hit with a pitch in the eighth inning of a baseball game Monday, May 29, 2017, in San Francisco. Harper was also knocked for charging the mound and throwing his helmet, Major League Baseball said. The original ruling came Tuesday and also knocked Strickland for six games.

Bryce Harper will serve a three-game suspension starting Wednesday night.

In Monday's game in San Francisco, Harper charged the mound after he was drilled by Giants reliever Hunter Strickland with a 98 miles per hour fastball in an apparent revenge for a dispute that took place almost three years ago during the 2014 National League Division Series. He also filed an appeal.

Strickland said he was only trying to pitch inside, not trying to hit Harper.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker said on Tuesday night, "I know [Giants catchers] Bruce Bochy didn't give the command and order". "See what they do and figure it out". "It's their call. We'll go from there".

The only reminder of the fight came when Harper was booed by the AT&T Park crowd every at-bat. It's just insane that it even happened yesterday. "I don't know. I don't know what was going through his mind or how upset he was the past couple of years".

The bad blood stems from a pair of home runs Harper hit off Strickland in the 2014 playoffs, when the Giants went on to capture their third World Series championship in five years.

Baker called the punishment of Harper unfair saying that very few batters would have turned the other cheek.

Social media at the time was full of commentary due to a lack of any reaction, but Posey would not discuss the situation but he and Strickland have since spoken about it. Strickland said he has talked to his catcher.
