Putin urges US business to help normalize Russia-US ties

03 June 2017, 01:55 | Gerardo Harmon

Facing questions from NBC's Megyn Kelly, who moderated a panel discussion at St Petersburg's economic forum, the Russian president said claims of interference in the USA election contained "nothing concrete, only assumptions".

Hours after the USA president walked out of the Paris climate accord, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated India's commitment to reducing carbon emission and leaving an earth which is "beautiful and pure" for the future generations.

Mr Putin also said that he wouldn't judge Mr Trump's decision to pull the USA out of the Paris climate accord, but that America would have had a better bargaining position to change the accord if the country had stayed in the deal.

Modi said he was asked a similar question in Germany earlier this week, before the U.S. decision was made public.

On October 7, 2016, the U.S. National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security jointly said that Russian Federation hacked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) servers and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's personal email account and leaked their documents to WikiLeaks. "In Germany, I had mentioned that whether there is Paris Accord or no Paris Accord, we are convinced that we must not steal something that rightfully belongs to the next generation. That is it. If there is something specific, then it will be a subject of discussion", Putin said.

He said the U.S. will begin negotiations to re-enter the Paris Agreement on terms that are fair to the United States.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says a chemical attack in Syria was a provocation against Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"It is not an issue whether I go this side or that side".

"It is part of our thinking and for that reason we do not believe in exploitation of the nature". "This does not include nuclear energy but is only solar, wind, biomass and hydro (power)".

He said the deal required countries to modernise their industry, something likely to cost big business billions of dollars and incur job losses, an eventuality he said had to be properly planned for.

Earlier, addressing the event, the prime minister said, "India is a responsible nation with regard to climate change. We can milk the nature".

He recalled that when he was the chief minister of Gujarat before 2014, the state had created a separate department for environment protection. He even tried to calm an inquisitive Kelly by asking: "Isn't there a pill they can give you?"
