I have no idea why Trump created the idea of taped conversations if he didn't have any tapes but I don't understand anything that this president does.

In under a minute, a modest reporter from Romania managed to do what the leaders of 27 countries and President Donald Trump's own staff couldn't: get him to commit to NATO's collective defense principle.

Trump, during a May 25 speech in Brussels, refused to affirm his commitment to Article 5, though he praised the alliance's quick response to the 9/11 attacks ― the only time in North Atlantic Treaty Organisation history Article 5 has been invoked.

"Well, I'm committing the United States and have committed, but I'm committing the United States to Article 5", Trump said.

Trump fired Comey last month.

The only time that Article 5 was invoked was after the United States was attacked on September 11, 2001.

Following Trump's Article 5 omission, White House press secretary Sean Spicer played down its absence. Earlier this year, the Romanian Defense Ministry announced its budget would be pegged to 2 percent of gross domestic product, in line with a benchmark set by members of the pact in 2014. "Very proud of that fact", Trump said.

Trump's condemnation contradicted the message delivered by his secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, who had urged Qatar's neighbors to ease their blockade while calling for "calm and thoughtful dialogue". He said he is not finished trying to solve the problem of terrorism but that we will solve the problem.

He also pointed out that Romania, which stands of NATO's Eastern flank, heavily relies on the USA for defense.

"I'll be glad to tell [Robert Mueller] exactly what I just told you", Trump said when a reporter inquired what he would tell the Special Counsel investigating allegations that Russian Federation interfered with the 2016 United States presidential election and colluded with the current President's campaign.

On Thursday, as Comey sat before the Senate Intelligence Committee, he was asked about being taped in the White House, to which Comey replied, "Lordy, I hope there are tapes". However, Trump has long criticized the coalition and has repeatedly called on other members to live up to their financial contributions to the US -dominated security infrastructure in Europe.
