California Congressman Moves to Impeach President Trump
14 June 2017, 05:37 | Cynthia Sparks
Rep. Brad Sherman
I am calling for his impeachment because we should expect conduct from our presidents that does not damage national security and obstruct justice in a very important FBI investigation.
"The evidence we have is sufficient to move forward now. And the national interest requires that we do so", Sherman wrote. A motion to table would be the likely outcome of that, but it would constitute the first impeachment-related vote. If there are multiple articles of impeachment, i.e. multiple charges, the House then votes on which of the charges should be brought against the president. I am not calling for Trump's impeachment because I disagree with every part of his unsafe and hateful agenda, although I do.
The reasons they give vary. Sherman denied any partisan motives in a statement on Monday, noting that Trump's impeachment would transfer power to Vice President Mike Pence, with whom he still disagrees.
Others want to go slowly until there is more of a shift, as they see it in Trump's hardcore base of support.
Asked about Pelosi's position on holding back on impeachment, Sherman said, "she plays a different role" but insisted "I've kept leadership apprised of every step as I've gone forward". So in order to dispose of Trump, Democrats need significant Republican support. A seemingly desperate Trump televised pledges of loyalty yesterday from all of his cabinet members with Rence Preibus, chief of staff, probably winning the bowing and scraping contest by thanking Mr. Trump for "blessing" him with the "privilege of serving" the Trump agenda.
Sherman said that any floor vote, if he made a decision to go through with it, likely wouldn't come until after the annual August recess.
Green was the first Democrat to announce he was drafting articles of impeachment against Trump. The US President got into office by rigging the election in his favour with Russian Federation, then the Director of the FBI was investigating it, then Trump fired him, then his approval rating sank to a dismal 39.3%, and now it might all culminate in the guy getting #Impeached.
His article argues that Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey as he was heading an investigation into ties between Trump's associates and the Kremlin during the 2016 campaign and transition.
