Matt Hughes Rushed To Hospital after Collison with Train

The 43-year-old Hughes was taken to a hospital in Springfield, with his injuries being deemed as serious by the Illinois State Police.

Hughes, 45-9, was airlifted to a hospital earlier today after the truck he was in 'collided with a moving train'.

No other information is available at this time. ESPN's Brett Okamoto reported the news of the incident after it was communicated to him by UFC president Dana White. The truck was struck on the passenger side by the train.

"Officers with the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash". He held the UFC's welterweight title from 2001-2004 and 2004-2006.


Hughes is a UFC Hall of Famer and multi-time defending welterweight champion, who faced a laundry list of top fighters during his career, defeating the likes of Georges St-Pierre and B.J. Penn.

Hughes (45-9), who beat some of the promotion's most renowned fighters, including George St-Pierre, B.J. Penn and Royce Gracie, resides in IL.

Matt Hughes was involved in a vehicle accident on Friday morning.
