Girl's actions caused her to fall from NY park ride

28 June 2017, 01:51 | Cynthia Sparks

A teenage girl at Six Flags Great Escape park in upstate NY had a terrifying experience on one of the rides this weekend.

Police say "human error" was to blame for a girl's fall from a gondola at a Six Flags amusement park in Upstate New York.

"They'll catch you, honey, go ahead!" another bystander, Loren Lent, 51 - who filmed video of the dramatic moment - called out to the girl.

The girl, 14, was taken to Albany Medical Center, where she was reported to be in stable condition with no serious injuries, CBS reported. She was riding with her younger brother, also not identified, who was strapped in, CNN reported.

"Let your legs dangle in the air as you board your open, two-person cable auto in Fest Area", the website said.

The accident happened on the Sky Ride at Six Flags Great Escape Amusement Park, about 55 miles north of Albany, New York.

"I couldn't let that little girl die", Howard told journalists yesterday.

According to Jessica Hansen, director of marketing and sales, the park immediately closed the ride once all visitors were off it Saturday.

The unidentified 14-year-old was on the Sky Ride Saturday when the operator got word someone was in distress, according to a statement from the sheriff's office. She fell out of the ride and was hanging onto the edge.

"I said: 'It's 'OK!"

Some witnesses surmised she may have been trying to kick trees as the ride passed them, but Stockdale said that did not appear to be the case.

After being checked over by emergency medical park personnel, she was airlifted to a local hospital where she was deemed healthy with no serious injuries.

"We are reviewing our internal procedures to ensure the safety and security of our guests and team members", park officials said.
