Suspect In Bixby Explosion To Appear In Federal Court
13 July 2017, 12:20 | Gerardo Harmon
The incident is being treated as a possible act of domestic terrorism
The authorities are investigating an explosion outside an Air Force recruiting center in Bixby, Okla., a suburb of Tulsa, that happened on Monday night.
The explosive device, a pipe bomb, was detonated about 10:30 p.m. Monday at an Air Force recruiting center in Post Rock Plaza near 104th Street and Memorial Drive in Bixby. The door of the recruiting center was blown off and landed in a parking space in front of the storefront and soot-covered windows.
Agents are investigating the possibility that the explosion was an incident of domestic terrorism, according to the Tulsa World. The center was closed and no one was hurt, federal authorities said.
"Roden wanted to quit the Air Force and join the U.S. Marines, however, the U.S. Marines would not accept Roden", the arrest affidavit states.
Witnesses say someone on a red motorcycle threw a backpack at the recruiting center, which then blew up.
Vandalism was also reported at another recruiting center across the street last week, within walking distance of where the bomb was detonated, the Federal Bureau of Investigation told the Tulsa World.
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents found Roden at the Sand Dollar Apartments near 61st and Riverside Tuesday afternoon and took him into custody.
"That government vehicle looks lovely setting outside that office in tulsa".
"It's a little bit comforting that they didn't want to kill anybody", FBI Special Agent Jessi Rice said at a press conference.
Mandy Vavrinak, a spokeswoman for the Bixby police, said the explosion occurred in a largely commercial and retail area near the border of Tulsa and Bixby, which she described as an "affluent suburban community".
