Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead and his dog Blitz

There's a happy ending for Dallas Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead and his dog Blitz, who was stolen from his house.

The reunion came almost 24 hours after Whitehead first broke the news on Instagram that his dog had been stolen. After breaking into Whitehead's friend's home, where Blitz was staying while the receiver was away from his home, the person who took the dog has contacted Whitehead asking for money in return for the dog's return.

It sparked an internet-wide manhunt as people tried to work out who took Whitehead's beloved dog, whom he's featured on his Instagram account before.

Whitehead asked his followers to contact him if they had any details about Blitz's location or anything relating to the incident, and broke all of our hearts in the process.

In an interview with KXAS-TV in Dallas (h/t ESPN.com), Whitehead said he received a call from an unknown number demanding $10,000 for the return of Blitz. Lucky Whitehead?has been reunited with Blitz.

Whitehead said he's had Blitz for nine weeks and got the dog shipped from San Diego.

Whitehead said he agreed to pay an undisclosed amount if the alleged perpetrator could prove his dog was OK. One of the men in the expletive-laden video calls out Whitehead for owing him money.

The 25-year-old Whitehead tried to get detectives on the case, but they were unable to trace the dognappers' phones.

We just hope Blitz makes it back to Whitehead safe and sound. He said the caller said he would call back "but I haven't heard from him since".

"It's killing me, because I wasn't here to protect him".
