Suboxone is a prescription pain medication used for pain management and for addiction treatment. Christenson and Wilde's 3-month old child tested positive for heroin and morphine. It has been found that the new born's mother had been an addict of heroin during her pregnancy.
But for an incident at a Walmart, authorities might never have known what had really happened at the hospital, and of the plight of the infant and other children in the couple's home, police say. The customer service agent gave Wilde the cash for the items but as he was leaving the store, he was stopped by loss prevention employees.
As witnesses tried to stop him, Wilde handed the auto seat and his baby to a stranger, then ran to his vehicle and sped away, according to deputies.
He was arrested by a sheriff's deputy in the auto park. The mother of the baby, who was also in the store, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Several different informants told investigators that parents of drug addicted babies will sometimes take either Suboxone or methadone, crush it up, then, after moistening a finger, dip that finger into the crushed drugs, and apply it to the mouth or gums of the infant in an effort to mask signs of addiction from hospital staff.
Christenson and Wilde faced more charges after police were contacted by a woman on June 28 who reported allegedly finding drug paraphernalia around their home, which detectives said they confirmed after a search of the residence.
Reports state that the couple's three other children- all boys, ages 2, 4 and 8 - were taken into custody by the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, after their parents' arrest.
The statement revealed Christenson was still inside the store with her three sons.
The four children are staying with the oldest boy's father, who did not want the children separated, police said. He grabbed the auto seat and made a run for it again, but once again, dropped the baby when he ran into a pillar.
After their release, authorities received a tip suggesting the couple were back on drugs. Also lying around was Suboxone, some of it in pill form, the rest of it crushed.
The parents were additionally charged with four counts each of child endangerment. That's when she noticed drug paraphernalia, and she notified the police. She told police she arrived to find drug paraphernalia in the home. After being released, the couple was accused of continuing to use methamphetamine and opiates.
They are both being held on a $10,000 (£7,000) cash bail.
Police later found Wilde in a nearby parking lot, where they arrested him and charged him with a series of crimes including DUI, possessing heroin and meth, driving without insurance, and other charges.
After being in-and-out from jail due to bail, the couple was arrested again on July 18 and booked on felony charges, including distribution of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone, possession of heroin and meth, endangerment of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bail for Wilde and Christenson is now set at US$10,000.

House panel approves budget with hopes for tax reform
The proposed defense spending exceeds caps on allowable spending, so they'd need Democrats' support to lift those caps. But for that budget to go into effect, it would have to pass the House and be reconciled with a Senate budget bill.
