Baby boy dies after being left in a hot auto

For the second time this month, authorities found another baby dead inside a hot vehicle in Phoenix.

According to the Washington Post, the baby had been left alone at his family's home in nearby Mesa before his father drove to the Free Church God of Christ. Josiah was in the possession of his father, who "forgot the baby was in the vehicle", according to an initial investigation, said Sgt. Mercedes Fortune of the Phoenix Police Department.

Fortune said- no arrests had been made as of Saturday night.

This death came just 24 hours after 7-month-old Zane Endress died after being left in a auto in northeast Phoenix for about four hours, according to Phoenix police.

Fire officials arrived and pronounced 1-year-old Josiah Riggins dead.

Last week, with temperatures regularly topping 100 degrees, it happened twice in a 24-hour period.

Phoenix Police will conduct an investigation, but initial indications are that this was accidental.

According to the safety organization Kids and Cars, an average of 37 children die each year in hot cars.

An infant in Phoenix has died after being left in a hot auto, one day after a baby boy died under similar circumstances.

"You feel like it's something that could happen to anybody", she said.

Since 1998, 729 children left in vehicles have died of heatstroke, according to NoHeatStroke.org, an organization that tracks the deaths of children in hot vehicles. There was at least one death previous year. Police say the boy was in the care of his grandparents at the time.
