Skype Adds PayPal Integration, Lets You Make Payments While Chatting

Microsoft, which owns Skype, says that while you will need the latest mobile version of Skype to send money, that doesn't apply to the recipient.

Microsoft announced today that it is bringing PayPal to the mobile Skype apps, allowing users to transfer funds to each other seamlessly. "Starting today, we're rolling out the ability to send money with PayPal on Skype".

If you live in one of those places, have a PayPal account, and use Skype for Android or iOS, you're in luck. To recall, Skype has also redesigned its app for Android and iOS, bringing the interface closer to the popular apps like Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

This is PayPal's latest partnership; in the previous year, it has inked similar deals with Apple, Slack, and Microsoft to integrate its payment platform - including Venmo - within other apps and services. If you, or your friend who's receiving the funds, don't already have a PayPal account, you'll be prompted to create one the first time you use Send Money. The first time you try to use this new feature, you'll be asked to confirm your location.

Check out PayPal's blog post and we look forward to hearing your feedback in the Skype Community!

The Send Money feature also enables worldwide payments, but only between select countries. Sending is free as long as you use your PayPal balance or a debit card in the United States.

Send Money now works in the US, Canada, UK (Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man), Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
