Like 2016, Another Demonstration Planned On Night Of Annual Elvis Presley Candlelight Vigil

Forty 40 years after the death of the king of rock n roll, tens of thousands of fans still make the pilgrimage to Memphis, Tennessee.

In observance of the anniversary of Presley's passing, Graceland is hosting an expanded, nine-day edition of its Elvis Week celebration that kicked off Friday, Aug. 11, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 19.

On August 16, 1977, the world lost iconic performer Elvis Presley, who died at the young age of 42.

He left active duty on March 5, 1960 at Fort Dix, N.J., but remained in the Army Reserve until March 23, 1964. Fans will mark the sad anniversary in many different ways.

John Layfield is one of brooks dedicated fans and has said to attend every concert in the past three years. "We believe that Graceland and Elvis will be just as popular, if not more popular, 10, 20, 30, 40 years from now, and we're investing for that". He also helped mint the new Elvis Presley Memphis at Graceland, a 200,000-square-foot complex featuring museums, restaurants, and a gift shop, which allowed for more of the icon's memorabilia, such as his vehicle and airplane collection, to be put on display.

Before the procession began, Priscilla Presley, the performer's former wife, and Lisa Marie Presley, their daughter, thanked the crowd for their love and dedication.

"There were only two songs set, first one on stage, and last one to tell me he was ready to go home, he would do anything in the middle, all for his fans", said Dick Grob.

"I get goosebumps just being at this spot right now, I feel Elvis' presence right now", says Brent Kuschel from Minnesota.

"During the Candlelight Vigil evening, we invite everyone to join us on Elvis Presley Blvd.in front of the Mansion".

Mike Stoller, who wrote the music, remember Elvis. So yeah, I uphold that, in my mind, as this place where he would rejuvenate and sort of get his bearings, and I kind of started to go there for the same thing, at some point.
