U2 to release new songs on Wednesday

The predominantly black and white clip, directed by Richie Smyth, was filmed before a live audience on July 28 in Amsterdam before the group's regular two concert nights on the 29th and 30th.

U2 have unveiled a new song, The Blackout, as well as release details of an official single release and album.

The track, however, will not be considered the lead single from the album.

The band completed the album previous year but felt, in the wake of Donald Trump's election, it did not suit the changed political and social climate.

The latest album is set for a more conventional release after U2 acknowledged its strategy backfired for Songs Of Innocence.

And the 2fm DJ, who was played the new album at Bono's Killiney home earlier this year, says the wait is well worth it. "We just went, 'Hold on a second - we've got to give ourselves a moment to think about this record and about how it relates to what's going on in the world'". But we have these songs.

Bono has said that U2 also needed time to cut down on the size of Songs Of Experience and wanted to return to the studio to fine-tune the music.

U2's steamy stop at Hard Rock Stadium in July on its smash The Joshua Tree Tour offered many things: way cool visuals, Bono's tribute to a Miami immigration attorney, and the entirety of its 1987 landmark LP.
