Emir meets US President

Qatar is open to dialogue, he said.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in NY, where both delivered speeches.

"We are right now in a situation where we're trying to solve a problem in the Middle East and I think we'll get it solved", Trump said, describing Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani as a long-time friend.

President Donald Trump predicted a rapid end to the diplomatic and economic standoff between Qatar and its neighbors Tuesday, during a meeting with the country's emir at United Nations headquarters. Qatar is home to the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East.

"As you said, Mr. President, we have a problem with our neighbors", Tamim said, adding that with Trump's intervention, "hopefully we can find a solution for this problem".

The speech capped the emir's first foreign trip since his country was isolated by a Saudi-led bloc of Arab states in June.

"The countries who imposed the blockade on the state of Qatar interfere in the internal affairs of many countries, and accuse all those who oppose them domestically and overseas with terrorism".

The US President said he expects that the dispute in the Gulf region would be resolved quickly.

During his address, the Emir said that his people felt betrayed by the hacking of QNA, as well as the ensuing blockade.

However, after getting word of this possibility, Trump allegedly called the two leaders and urged them to exercise restraint.

When asked if he had warned Saudi Arabia and the UAE against invading Qatar, Trump responded, "No".
