Traders move Supreme Court for modification of order banning firecrackers sale

Mr Bagga said it would not be a violation of the court order, "because the court has only banned the sale of firecrackers, it has not put a ban on buying or bursting them."The controversy started yesterday, when responding to a petition by three children regarding the noxious post-Diwali pollution, the Supreme Court banned the sale of firecrackers till November 1".

According to ANI, the traders have sought permission from the apex court to sell their existing stock.

However, the court said that the September 12, 2017 order lifting the ban on the sale and stocking of firecrackers in Delhi NCR will be back into effect from November 1.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who ruled the city-state for nearly 15 years, on Tuesday said that the firecracker ban on Diwali will disappoint people as it is a "sentimental religious celebration".

A bench comprising Justices Ranjan Gogoi, AM Sapre and Navin Sinha assured the counsel for the traders that it would consult the judge concerned, who had passed the order, for placing their interim application for urgent hearing, PTI reported.

Though the order dealt a severe blow to the traders and businessmen dealing in them, it was widely welcomed by environmentalists.

The court, in its direction in 2016, had suspended all licenses which permits sale of fireworks, wholesale and retail within the territory of NCR till further orders.

In its order, the SC said that there will be no sale of firecrackers this year.

"The Supreme Court has imposed a ban on sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR but there is no ban on bursting of crackers".

Gurugram, Oct 11 The administration has banned the sale of firecrackers in the district till November 1 following a Supreme Court order, and directed its officials inspect warehouses and shops.

In the video message, the India all-rounder recalled the trouble he had a year ago due to pollution.

The order comes at a time when Delhi's air quality has already hit "very unhealthy" levels.
