Rose McGowan back on Twitter

Rose McGowan back on Twitter

HIlarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan

"We have been in touch with Ms. McGowan's team". According to a tweet, Twitter suspended the account because she posted a "private phone number".

McGowan has since criticised other major Hollywood figures for failing to confront Weinstein, at one point tweeting: "You all knew". Twitter says it has clamped down on 10 times as many abusive tweeters as it did a year ago, but Rose McGowan's recent account locking suggests that the efficacy of its approach is still unclear. "We stand with the courageous women and men who use Twitter to share their stories, and will work hard every day to improve our processes to protect those voices", the company added.

Burton went on to address the incident, tweeting, "I was a kid".

McGowan Instagrammed a photo of a notification from Twitter late Wednesday saying the site had "determined that this account had violated the Twitter Rules, so we temporarily limited some of your account features".

Last week, The New York Times revealed that powerful producer Harvey Weinstein had been paying off sexual harassment accusers for decades.

One Twitter user recalled Affleck's behaviour, declaring "everyone forgot though", to which Burton replied: "I didn't forget".

Weinstein spoke in front of media Wednesday as he emerged from a Los Angeles home and got into a vehicle.

McGowan has been using the social media platform to mobilise her #ROSEARMY against those people she perceives as enabling and covering up Weinstein's alleged sexual misconduct, including Ben Affleck, Bob Weinstein and Casey Affleck.

As the furors surrounding Weinstein continued to grow, Affleck said he was "saddened and angry" over the allegations. Mr. Weinstein obviously can't speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to any women who have made allegations on the record, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual. After the New Yorker expose ran Tuesday, which included the report that Weinstein had allegedly sexually assaulted three women, McGowan tweeted "now I am allowed to say rapist".

In a series of tweets, she also circulated a petition demanding that Weinstein's company be dissolved. The optics are clear, and clearly bad: Twitter silenced a female victim of sexual impropriety who was speaking out against those who enable it.
