"I believe it is beyond inappropriate for anyone to bring in the tragic death of my son Eric Chase Bolling", he said in the statement. "And I would give up my life to protect my children, but I find myself not being able to protect them because of things being said about me, their father".
On Saturday, The New York Times reported that O'Reilly had paid the settlement to Lis Wiehl, a former federal prosecutor and Fox News legal analyst, who accused him of forcing her into a "nonconsensual relationship".
Bill O'Reilly has released personal letters he received from ex-Fox News anchors Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson, an apparent effort to back up his claims that he did not engage in any sexual misconduct while he was with the network. Fox News announced last month that it had parted ways with Bolling. Furthermore, the Times said, Fox was aware of the settlement but chose to renew O'Reilly's contract in February, granting him a four-year extension that paid $25 million a year.
But his claims on monday night were even more dramatic. However, after the initial revelation of O'Reilly's settlements, he was sacked from the network last spring.
In a statement to the Times' Emily Steel, Bolling said "I believe it is beyond inappropriate for anyone to bring in the tragic death of my son Eric Chase Bolling".
After Bolling made his statement to the Times, O'Reilly took to Twitter to apologize to his former coworker.
An initial report from TMZ claimed the cause of death was suicide, but this was never confirmed, and Bolling himself has indicated several times this was not the case.
"Perhaps he didn't realize that his exact attitude of shaming women into shutting the hell up about harassment - on grounds that "it will disgrace the company" is in part how Fox News got into the decade-long Ailes mess to begin with". "I wish this stuff didn't happen".
He added: 'But then I think about people who have it much, much rougher than me. I was truly touched - I know how busy you are, especially that time of day.
