As of the 11 am advisory, we Potential Storm 18 strengthen to Tropical Depression #18 over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.
The 5 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center indicated the storm had sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with stronger gusts.
This moisture will then get pulled into a storm system advancing through the eastern states, providing additional fuel for heavy rain in parts of the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions from Sunday into Monday. Stronger winds will be found on the east coast, where a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Craig Key to Golden Beach, Florida.
It is expected to cross western and central Cuba on Saturday afternoon, and move through the northern Bahamas mid-to-late morning on Sunday. The depression that has been soaking central and western Cuba and spreading rain and thunderstorms northward across the Florida Keys and South Florida, now has sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for... The center forecast about 2 to 4 inches of rain with higher localized accumulations in South Florida. It is expected to intensify some and become Tropical Storm Philippe by tonight, the hurricane center said.
The KRIS 6 Weather team advises that this storm does not pose a threat to our area.
Latest tracking maps show the storm moving over Cuba today before brushing the southern tip of Florida at about 2am EDT on Sunday.
