Minnesota Vikings place Sam Bradford on season-ending IR
Bradford was returning to Minnesota on Tuesday night and will await the team's decision on whether the club will place him on injured reserve when it activates Teddy Bridgewater to the 53-man roster on Wednesday.
Keenum will remain the starter when the Vikings face the Redskins on the road in Week 10, and Bridgewater is expected to serve as his backup.
After opting for nonsurgical rehabilitation methods, Bradford underwent a knee scope by Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday, a procedure that was viewed as a last resort.
Bradford saw Andrews on September 22, but it was determined then that no surgery was needed.
Bridgewater was placed on the PUP list to start the season, and he returned to practice October 18, the first day he was eligible. Bradford turned 30 today and made it through just one game this season.
Bridgewater hasn't played since the 2016 preseason, when he dislocated his knee and required surgery.
Bradford, who was acquired via trade from the Eagles after Bridgewater's injury, started the season opener but suffered a non-contact injury shortly thereafter. From Week 8 on, all players cut go directly to waivers.
The Vikings' 2014 first-round pick tore his ACL and dislocated the left knee during a late August practice previous year.
In Sloter's case, it would have been hard for the Vikings to sneak him through the waiver wire and sign him to the practice squad before a quarterback-needy team scooped up the rookie's talents. Bridgewater has the highest completion percentage (64.9) of any quarterback in his first two seasons in National Football League history.
