Video: Floor collapses during homecoming party

Meanwhile in Denton #UNT' added one user along with a gif of the classic Disney film The Aristocats that depicts the cats partying so hard they too fall to the floor below

At least 50 residents from a Denton apartment complex have been displaced after the floor of a third-story unit collapsed during a party late Saturday night. But the floor gave way under the weight of the dozens of students gathered at the party.

Until the building and its sprinkler system are repaired, the utilities will remain shut off, Denton Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Glenn said.

The incident was caught on video from multiple angles from the apartment near the University of North Texas in Denton, near Dallas.

Carley Carroll is a UNT sophomore who lives on the second floor directly below the unit that collapsed. Fort Worth Star-Telegram said the call was upgraded to a potential mass casualty incident once they arrived at the scene and additional support from other fire rescue units and Denton police was called for.

Investigators said the terrifying collapse was caused by too much jumping.

"They have parties quite a bit, nearly every weekend", Carley Carroll told NewsFix. "We haven't even lived here three months, and everything we have is gone and destroyed".

She said: "It's just one of those, it's like it happened".

The Ridge at North Texas is a student- only apartment complex, owned privately and not by UNT.

Denton Police are working to confirm the previous noise complaints.

Glenn says about 30 people were in the apartment at the time of the collapse and that he believes the structure just couldn't handle that many people dancing and jumping at one time.

An investigation into the structural failing is now underway, while apartment management and the university have worked to help secure housing in dorms or hotels for affected students in the building.
