North Korea Blasts US Terrorism Blacklisting

The White House has said it will not tolerate the North's testing or deployment of an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to USA cities.

North Korea responded on Wednesday to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to relist the county as a state sponsor of terrorism, calling it a "grave provocation and aggressive violation", North Korean state media reported.

North Korea condemned its USA terror listing as a "serious provocation" on Wednesday, warning that sanctions would never force it to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.

The North Korean Central News Agency, KCNA, said the "heinous gangsters" who put North Korea on "wretched list of "terrorism" have angered Pyongyang and it will find ways to "settle all accounts".

Trump in restoring North Korea to the terror list criticized his predecessor, Barack Obama, for not having taken such a bold move during his eight years on office.

European researchers say they have identified the targets North Korea is planning to attack.

North Korea joins Iran, Sudan, and Syria - the only countries designated by the U.S.as state sponsors of terrorism. He and Trump appeared to have gotten along quite well during Trump's recent visit - an occasion for him to call for strengthening South Korea's armed forces.

But the North remained defiant on Wednesday, vowing to continue building up its nuclear force in the face of repeated U.S. sanctions and threats. North Korean leaders and state media have said North Korea will not negotiate its nuclear program.

USA diplomats responsible for negotiating with the North Koreans in previous years were by and large supportive of strong sanctions - and also of calling North Korea a "terror state".

"This designation will impose further sanctions and penalties on North Korea and related persons and supports our maximum pressure campaign to isolate the murderous regime".

The US removed North Korea from its list in 2008 in a move to try and promote dialogue over its weapons programmes.

Upon making his decision public during a White House cabinet meeting on Monday, Trump accused the North of backing "acts of global terrorism" and said the move should have been made "years ago".
