Gates is believed to be the only other person to reach $100 billion.
According to Bloomberg, Adobe Analytics data show online purchases were 18.4 percent higher than last year-possibly driven in part by Amazondriving many physical retailers towards extinction-and that "investors are betting the company will take an outsized share of online spending over the gifting season".
Inc. founder Jeff Bezos has become the newest billionaire to reach a net worth of $100 billion.
Bezos surpassed Microsoft founder Bill Gates as the richest person on the planet back in October before dropping back, but he has now solidified his position as the wealthiest person on earth.
While the top spot has seen a Gates vs Bezos contest, for some time, Gates' charity initiative in which he gave away 5 per cent of his net worth (roughly $4.6 billion) in August, made it easier for Bezos to surpass him.
Bezos, the world's richest man, owns about 78.9 million shares of Amazon, according to a November 14 filing.

By comparison, Bill Gates' current estimated net worth stands at a paltry $86.8 billion (£65.1bn).
Unlike Gates and Buffett, Bezos has given relatively little of his fortune to charitable causes.
The world's richest man and e-commerce mogul directly owns about 78.9 million shares of Amazon. In June, he tweeted a solicitation for ideas on a philanthropy strategy.
According to Bloomberg, this year itself, worth of Bezos rose by around $34 billion.
He wrote: "I'm thinking I want much of my philanthropic activity to be helping people in the here and now - short term - at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact".
