OnePlus 5T is Unable to Support HD Streaming from Popular Apps

OnePlus 5T can't stream content from Netflix in HD – yet
The problem was brought to light on OnePlus' forums, where one user pointed out that the problem is related to the phones' lack of support for Google's Widevine level 1 DRM, which many services require for HD streaming. The following screenshot confirms L3 certification for the 5T is now a fact. To be specific, this isn't a OnePlus exclusive problem, there are other devices at the similar price tag which doesn't support anything beyond Level 3 either. OnePlus is branding the OnePlus 5T as a "flagship killer", yet it's missing a utility that even the most basic mid-range smartphones offer. This was noted by a OnePlus 5T user in a thread on the OnePlus forums. OnePlus 5T now supports Widevine Level 3, which supports only standard definition streams. Other similarly priced devices, such as the ZTE Axon 7, also lack Widevine support beyond level 3.
OnePlus 5T, as well as the OnePlus 5, doesn't let you stream high definition videos.
It seems really odd that the phone that has the hardware to support it, did not provide required Widevine Level 1 DRM out of the box. According to a recent report citing an unnamed OnePlusspokesperson, support for Widevine L1 will be added through a firmware update at an unspecified later date, however no public statement on the matter can be found as of this writing so only time will tell whether the OEM will indeed address the issue later down the OnePlus 5T's lifespan.
A company spokesperson says that a future update for the 5T will enable Widevine Level 1, but did not elaborate on why it was omitted from the start.
As far as technical specifications are concerned, it's evident that the OnePlus 5T should be powerful enough to support video streaming in higher than SD quality, as the device is backed by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM.

Apple reportedly acquiring Shazam music recognition app
The most obvious is bringing Shazam's music recognition capabilities to Apple Music, perhaps helping users more easily find music. That said, the acquisition makes sense as the platform already drives users to Apple Music and is compatible with Siri.
