Forecast: Snow Ending This Morning, Cold Everywhere

The storm responsible for our first measurable snow in more than two months will gradually move southeast of Colorado through the day on Thursday. Wednesday will also be windy and cold with snow showers and highs in the 20s to near 30. By tomorrow morning most areas will pick up between 1 and 2 inches of fresh snow.

The big story today is the cold with high temperatures only in the low 20s with wind chills near zero.

"Friday is looking calmer and more settled although it will be cold".

Winds will start to increase during the afternoon and evening into the mountain foothills West of Billings. Gusts should be limited to no more than 30 miles per hour in the metro area but that's still more than enough wind to keep wind chills in the 20s. It's a cold start, with readings in the lower to middle 20s. For related traffic news, check out Dr. Gridlock.

Tomorrow (Thursday): Temperatures moderate just a bit, with highs heading for the upper 30s to low 40s. Highs will likely be in the mid to upper 30s, which is slightly below normal. You may want to allow for some extra time as you leave the house but conditions are improving as the Clipper responsible for the light snow slides away. We are clear and very cold tonight with lows falling into the single digits as winds become calm.

Friday... Mostly sunny with a high temperature of about 53. Precipitation chances rise again Sunday afternoon into the evening. Overall, snow totals will be light. It is possible that much of the city will get at least enough snow to lightly cover the ground, but the airport may be missed!
