Gujarat Assembly Election: Votes Sealed, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani Says Will Get 150 Seats
News Nation exit poll has predicted that Bhartiya Janta Party will secure victories in the Gujarat and Himachal Assembly elections.
The vote share for Congress has gone up to 42 per cent this year, however, that's still behind the BJP which has got 47 per cent of the same. A poll of polls projected a 47-20 seat share in favour of the saffron party in the 68-seat Himachal Pradesh Assembly.
The Times Now-VMR exit poll predicted 109 seats for the BJP and 70 for the Congress while three will go to others. Sahara Samay and India News predict 110-120 seats for the BJP and 65-75 seats for the Congress; News Nation gives the BJP 124-128, and Congress 52-56.
The only disappointment for the party is that it might not meet its president Amit Shah's target of 150 seats in Gujarat. The BJP is likely to get 50 per cent of the vote share, while the Congress would get 41 per cent and others would bag about nine per cent of the electorate.
Betting market predicts sweeping victory for BJP in Gujarat. The Street is rooting for the ruling party as it would mean continuation of the reforms agenda. In Ahmedabad city, Vejalpur seat reported 69.01% voting, the highest among the 16 urban seats. So, going by the exit polls, BJP is clearly winning the elections and will form the government in the hill state.
Saurashtra-Kutch region sends the largest number of MLAs, 54, to the Gujarat Assembly. Exit poll conducted by ABP News-CSDS Lokniti gave the incumbent BJP a maximum of 117 seats and Congress 64 in Gujarat. Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the GPP merged with the BJP hence BJP improved its tally. The Congress can make a gain of 17 seats at most and the BJP's seat share might come down to 99 from the 115 that was predicted in October 2017.
However, about 27 seats remain extremely critical and a swing of 1-2 per cent vote share can completely change the picture for the Congress party.
In 2012, the BJP won 33 seats from Saurashtra region. One seat will go to the others, it says.
Hardik's PAAS fought the Gujarat poll forming an alliance with the Congress. Axis My India shows the Congress in the lead in 13 out of the 25 Thakore dominated seats, while the BJP leads in 12.
Ellisbridge, Maninagar and Ghatlodia seats also saw over 64% turnout.
