ISIS claims responsibility for attack on Kabul spy training center
Gunmen opened fire near a training facility on Monday in Afghanistan's main intelligence agency in Kabul, leading to a fight with security forces that resulted in three militants being killed, local authorities said.
Nasrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said the fighting ended when Afghan security forces shot and killed the three attackers without suffering any casualties.
According to the NDS, there were three attackers and they used an under-construction building to for targeting the center. During the attack, roads to the area were closed and dozens of police and intelligence officers blocked access to the public. The slain officer was the district police commander, he added.
AFP reporters, who were held more than a kilometre away from the scene, saw ambulances and reinforcements headed towards the site.
No group has claimed responsibility for that attack, which the government has blamed on the Taliban-allied Haqqani network.
No U.S. or North Atlantic Treaty Organisation advisers were involved in the attack or the security response to it, said U.S. Navy Capt. Tom Gresback, a spokesman for the coalition mission to train, advise and assist Afghan government forces.
The IS group claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq news agency.
Elsewhere in the country, a Taliban suicide attacker detonated a auto bomb in the southern city of Lashkar Gah, capital of Helmand province, late Monday killing at least two civilians and wounding 30 people.
In another attack yesterday, in the southern Helmand province, a suicide vehicle bomber struck a police convoy, killing one police officer and wounding 29 other people, including civilians.
In October, a Taliban attack on the Marshal Fahim National Defense University in the same area killed 15 Afghan army cadets.
