Cloudy Skies over Baton Rouge
Happy Friday! It'll be another chilly start to your day as we close out the final work week of 2017. And the forecast for early next week is very cold!
Some intermittent sunshine may return Friday and Saturday with temperatures returning to the 50s or low 60s, but the milder weather will be short-lived. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s.
Temperatures will be down into the low 20s to ring in the new year and with a north wind of 10 miles per hour real feels will be in the low teens. Overnight lows next week will easily drop into the teens, while highs will struggle to warm above freezing! A chance of drizzle and showers could turn into icy road conditions, and the Texas Department of Transportation will pre-treat roads heading into the weekend. A few showers can not be ruled out Friday night, but the chance is less than 10%.
NEW YEAR'S EVE: A deep trough digs down into the Southeast and the floodgates of the Arctic will be wide open spilling frigid air into the U.S. Our next surge of cold air arrives on Sunday when it looks like temperatures will remain in the 30s all day.
Buckle up for plenty of cold air the next several days!
Precipitation will fall as a liquid as it leaves the clouds because temperatures will be above freezing. It will sweep southeast until all of North Texas is below freezing by late Sunday afternoon. But this is such a small chance that I would get to excited about it, and little to no accumulation is expected. The weekend is still the most interesting phase of the forecast. With temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s, travel problems could develop. Just remember most other apps strictly use model data, so you may see some extreme cold showing up. Tonight, clouds stick with us and temperatures hover near freezing. By Monday morning single digit wind chills are likely. Mornings will be in the low 20s early next week and some spots may briefly dip into the teens. Wednesday will be very similar to Tuesday as well.
