Green Bay Packers: Two defensive assistant coaches let go, per report

Packers enter off-season by reportedly firing Capers

Packers fire longtime defensive coordinator Dom Capers

Of course, he's been Green Bay's DC since 2009.

He has started all 53 regular-season games in which he has played, including being the only Green Bay offensive lineman to start every game this season. That includes this past season that saw the Packers give up an average of 24 points per game, and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

This is all despite the team using its first draft pick on a defensive player in each of the last six years. Besides Capers and Sanders, McCarthy also fired special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum after the 2014 season.

Green Bay finished 2017 ranked No. 22 in total defense. He holds a 48-80 regular-season coaching record for the Carolina Panthers (1995-1998) and Houston Texans (2002-2005).

But the Packers will always have 2010, when his defense would help them win a Super Bowl.

Capers, 67, has been an National Football League coach for 24 years.

He was twice a head coach - both with expansion teams (the Carolina Panthers in 1995-98, and the Houston Texans in 2001-2005) - and was sacked from both jobs. He also was the secondary coach for the New England Patriots in the season before joining the Packers.

Trgovac had been with the Packers since 2009.

Whether or not Green Bay is firing Capers or if he is deciding to just walk away is not now known, but based on the Packers' lack of success defensively during most of his tenure, it's probably best that the two sides are parting ways.
