Andy Murray says his focus is on enjoying playing tennis again after hip surgery

Andy Murray says his focus is on enjoying playing tennis again after hip surgery

"Practising and doing everything in the gym is great but playing matches is what I need".

Murray was scheduled to play Ryan Harrison in the second round in Brisbane, having received a bye to progress through the first round.

Murray has not played competitively since losing to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon in June previous year because of a hip injury.

The Scot - a two-time champion in Brisbane - did play one set against Roberto Bautista Agut at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship on Friday, losing 6-2.

AndyMurray's long-term hip injury has forced him out of the Brisbane International, cast serious doubts over his participation in the Australian Open and has him contemplating surgery.

"Giving yourself breaks, especially as you start to get older, I think, is very important and something that I'll certainly be looking to do for however long I keep playing".

He said: "Having been recommended to treat my hip conservatively since the US Open I have done everything asked of me from a rehab perspective and worked extremely hard to try get back on the court competing".

Then the Scot - initially expected in Brisbane before Christmas - delayed his arrival in Queensland in another indication his fitness was not 100 per cent.

Nadal pulled out of the Brisbane event and a Sydney exhibition, while Djokovic withdrew from an Abu Dhabi event.

Should Andy Murray miss the Australian Open, it will be highly disappointing for he has consistently performed well in the season's opening Major.

"I didn't expect to, you know, to not continue here".

"He thinks he's not far away from what he's told me, " Pearson said.

"I would love it to be number one in the world level but I just want to play".

However, the Spaniard's match was over after she fell to the ground in agony grabbing her leg while attempting to make a backhand return.

Krunic will next play Samantha Stosur's first round conqueror, seventh seed Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia, who downed Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-1 on Tuesday. "I don't really cramp a lot, so I'm actually surprised that today my body was like that", Muguruza said, adding that her calf muscles started to cramp early in the second set.

"It's a shame because I always come here excited about the first tournament, and this one was bad luck, I guess".
