President Donald Trump reiterated Saturday that he wants to work with Democrats to find a permanent legislative solution to allow those protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to stay in the country, but only if it comes with a long-promised border wall and changes to the immigration system.

According to Congressman Henry Cuellar, the Trump Administration has started talks about putting up 130 miles of wall or fencing along the border in the Webb County area.

But members of Congress have not yet agreed to spending any money on the wall, and Mexico has repeatedly said it won't foot the bill.

"What the American people do want, in overwhelming numbers, is to provide legal protection to 800,000 Dreamers and a path toward citizenship for them", he continued, referring to a common name for young immigrants who came to the USA illegally as children. In September, President Trump shut the program down and gave Congress six months to come up with an alternate policy. Sen. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the plan has not been made public.

The White House has demanded that funds to build the wall are included in any legislation meant to help DACA recipients.

If that work was completed, more than half of the almost 2,000 mile-border with Mexico would be lined with a physical barrier.

President Trump this week asked Congress for $18-B to pay for the 1st phase of The Wall's construction.

Mexico has steadfastly rejected Trump's demand that it pay for the wall and few doubt that US taxpayers will foot the bill if the wall is built.
