Boston experienced historic flooding on Thursday, as the "bomb cyclone" winter storm hit the Northeast, bringing heavy snow, winds and a storm surge.

Some flights were diverted to other airports because of the Terminal 1 gate delays, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24, which reported a dozen worldwide flights waiting for gates at JFK Saturday.

The Port Authority Police Benevolent Association, in a tweet, said that the right wing of the Chinese aircraft grazed the tail end of the Kuwait Airways vessel, causing damages to both the planes on Saturday. Port Authority officials said no injuries were reported and that all passengers were able to safely disembark, NBC reported.

Originally, The Port Authority put out a statement claiming it was working with airlines, terminal operators and the Federal Aviation Administration "to limit the arrival of flights into JFK Airport until there are adequate gates available to handle the backlog of flights due to recovery of flight schedules after Thursday's storm".

The Kuwait Airways flight was parked ahead of takeoff when the planes collided, the airline said on Twitter.Kuwait's passengers were transported to nearby hotels to await new flight arrangements as NY authorities investigated the incident, the airline added.

Late Friday, a passenger with the Twitter name thechrismendez said: "Been stuck on tarmac for over 3 hours at JFK Alitalia flight 8604". Complaints of hours-long waits to get to a gate after landing, then hours more to get checked baggage. The airline said it was working with authorities in NY to investigate.

It took more than three hours before the 325 passengers could exit the aircraft, according to a CNBC report.

After a 14-hour flight from Beijing, and another 7-hours stranded on the JKFairport TarMac, passengers aboard airchina Flight #CA989 are deplaning. "Our flight was just one of many that landed, but without a gate assigned".

"This is illegal", he tweeted. But the airport's gates aren't high enough to reach the plane's doors. The delays are affecting both arriving and departing flights.

"Everyone video this, because we need answers", one woman said, directing her fellow passengers in front of a ticket terminal.

The situation comes the same day an American Airlines flight had to return to the airport following takeoff after a mechanical failure.
