Google Unifies Its Payment Platforms, Introduces Google Pay

Here’s everything you need to know about Google Pay

Pali Bhat, VP of Product Management, Payments, concludes in the company's blog post, "Bringing everything into one brand is just the first step for Google Pay". Perhaps Tez too will be branded as Google Pay, even though it is not the same as Google Wallet or Android Pay as it uses the UPI payment system made in India. But soon, "over the coming weeks", Google says it will merge the various ways it gobbles up this information under a new umbrella called Google Pay.

Google's unified payment platform is effectively like Apple Pay, a unified service that Apple customers can use on websites, apps, and in stores.

Here's where it gets a little confusing. Lastly, Instacart orders of at least $35 completed with Google Pay by January 16 score $10 markdowns. As like before, the new service also supports developers with a publicly available API access. As such, we'll have to wait and see what other changes Google has in store for its payment platforms.

Instead of having two different payment methods, Google decided it was time to combine both Android Pay and Google Wallet into one service.

The impact on you at home: Google Pay may be replacing Android Pay on our phones to streamline the experience, but it doesn't simplify the Android digital payments landscape in the slightest. For the rest of the things like Google's own app such as YouTube or Google Play, you will be able to sign-up for new subscriptions or buy apps using a single Google Pay account. For now, however, it doesn't sound as if much is changing - just the name.
