Padmaavat Controversy Kshatriya women threaten to perform'jauhar if movie is released

Meanwhile, the governments of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh said the film will not be released in their states. "When I look back at this year, it has been one of the most exciting years in my career - to be doing "Padmavati", to be a part of a film which I really believe is going to be historic and remembered, if I may say so", he said.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, "Padmaavat is a dream come true for me".

The official date for Padmaavat has been confirmed, and it will release on January 25, which will clash with Akshay Kumar's Pad Man.

Nishant Bora, the counsel of Bhansali, argued in the high courtthat the First Information Report became meaningless as the film's name had already been changed to "Padmavat" from "Padmavati", following recommendations by the censor board and experts.

Padmavati was scheduled for a December 1 release which got postponed due to protests in several states for alleged misrepresentation of history and maligning the image of Queen Padmavati.

The film is slated for release on January 25.

At least 159 activists of the Rajasthan-based Karni Sena were arrested on Friday while protesting outside the Central Board of Film Certification's office here against the clearance given to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavat", earlier titled "Padmavati".

"It's a story that is inherently Indian in its context, ethos and values".

In a statement, Viacom18 Motion Pictures Chief Operating Officer Ajit Andhare said Padmaavat is "a tribute to Rajput valour".

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film across select global markets, including non-traditional territories.

All the three actors, Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have tweeted the new release date of Padmaavat. "I would also like to thank the entire film fraternity for supporting Viacom18 and Bhansali Productions through the entire production and pre-release phase and hope they like the film they so supported".
