Milan rail crash: At least two dead and 10 seriously injured after passenger train derails in Italy
Emergency services are at the scene with members of the local fire brigade in the process of rescuing travellers trapped inside the carriages. Photographs show three carriages sprawled across the tracks, one of them tilted to the side, smashed into a pole.
At least five passengers were reported to have suffered serious injuries, while dozens of others had minor injuries.
The incident happened between Pioltello and Segrate, 40km from Milan.
The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. Some of the injured received first aid treatment in a nearby field.
Journalists watched from a field about 100 metres away from the site, where three helicopters arrived to rush the injured to hospital while another patrolled the area. According to the reports, fire fighters were seen gathering in the coach trying to evacuate the injured passengers.

They said: "Service interrupted between Treviglio and Milan due to technical difficulties on an earlier train".
The train was headed for central Milan from Cremona with hundreds of commuters on board. Then it braked suddenly and derailed.
The head of Milan police said an investigation has been opened, with railway police interrogating the train driver.
The Trenord service derailed at the Pioltello Limito station on the outskirts of the city in northern Italy.
