Here's why Lorde turned down a Grammy performance
29 January 2018, 02:36 | Mandy Simon
Lorde is nominated for Best Album
Unlike most of the other artists nominated for Album of the Year-Childish Gambino, JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Bruno Mars-Lorde won't be performing at tonight's 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
For an artist who isn't performing at the Grammys, Lorde is certainly owning Grammy Week. We're told Lorde wanted to perform one of her songs from her nominated album, but she was only offered the option to sing as part of a Tom Petty tribute during the late rocker's tune, "American Girl".
She had circled the paragraph: "Of the 899 people to be nominated for Grammy awards in the past six years, only nine per cent were women". It is unclear if this means Lorde will skip the ceremony in its entirety or if she will simply bypass the customary red carpet entrance. They would only let her perform as part of a planned Tom Petty tribute.
According to TMZ, sources close to the star revealed that Lorde decided not to perform after a heated conversation with the Grammys' bosses about her involvement with the show.
Variety reports that the reason behind Lorde's absence is because she declined a performance spot on the ceremony. Why? Last week, her mother tweeted an excerpt from a New York Times article which pointed to the uneven ratio of men to women who have been nominated.
The 21-year-old singer will not sing on the show and is considering not even attending, even though she was in New York City on Grammy weekend, TMZ reported.
Cardinals "Closing In" To Make Steve Wilks Head Coach
Despite mediocre numbers from the Arizona defense in 2017, Wilks inherits quite a lot of talent on that side of the ball. Wilks stepped into the role vacated by Sean McDermott this season and changed the Panthers defense in a positive way.
Mary Lou McDonald nominated as next leader of Sinn Féin
NOMINATIONS to become the next leader of Sinn Féin closed last night, with Mary Lou McDonald believed to be the only candidate. A fourth attempt to end the impasse is due to begin on Wednesday. "We have to challenge ourselves and our support base".
