Bon Ton Closing Stores in Our Area
A department store in Watertown will be closing its doors for good. However, the location at Trexlertown, Lehigh County will be closed. This comes as the retailer released plans to close 47 locations nationwide during the early part of 2018.
Struggling retailer Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has put together a turnaround plan focused on closing underperforming stores, providing more sought-after merchandise, improving its marketing and increasing online-related sales by 50 percent in the next two years.
Liquidation sales for the 42 stores are set to start Thursday and will last for about 12 weeks, according to the Bon-Ton. Employees at the store will be able to interview for positions at other locations, but layoffs are expected, company officials said.
Miller said she was saddened to hear the department store and mall anchor is closing.
Bon-Ton has 260 stores in the US, including furniture galleries and clearance centers, in addition to department stores.
He added: "We would like to thank the loyal customers who have shopped at these locations and express deep gratitude to our team of hard-working associates for their commitment to Bon-Ton and to serving our customers".
