Sochi conference sees Syrian delegates agreeing on rewriting constitution

Russian-backed peace talks endorse future path for Syria, but opposition and Kurds stay away

A statement released after the talks laid out 12 principles.

In particular, based on the consensus of the delegates, a constitutional committee dedicated to promoting a constitutional reform was created at the congress, which consists of the Syrian government delegation and the widely-represented opposition delegation. Ansari added that Iran called on Turkey to urge the different opposition groups to attend the conference, however it appeared that Turkey's influence was limited.

Representatives from various countries and global organizations were also invited as observers of the congress. Russia, Iran and Turkey, guarantors of a Syrian cease-fire regime, were organizers of the congress.

According to the Turkish General Staff, Operation Olive Branch aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as protect Syrians from terrorist oppression and cruelty.

The PKK-affiliated People's Protection Units (YPG) terrorists targeted a Turkish military convoy heading north in the Syrian city of Idlib with a auto bomb on Tuesday, killing a civilian personnel and wounding a soldier and another civilian personnel, the military said in a statement. Two-thirds will be chosen from supporters of Assad's government and one-third from the opposition.
