Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini to "sign the contract and shut up" with the player set to leave for free in the summer. Try to play the best we can and improve the players individually the best we can and be the best possible team at the end of the season.

Injuries have held him back this season, however, and a ligament issue even forced him to return to Belgium to recover in October, per Ciaran Kelly of the Manchester Evening News.

The 36-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to the United States. "'Two, three four or five, I can not say at the moment".

According to Mourinho, he told the Belgium worldwide to "sign the contract and shut up" rather than take a gamble and keep demanding higher wages.

The Belgian, who is out of contract at the end of the season, suffered the injury during the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday night.

The victory over Huddersfield left United in second place on 56 points, 13 behind league leaders Manchester City.

It's being reported that Fellaini wants a huge pay rise worth £120,000-per-week to stay at Old Trafford which, naturally, has sparked outrage amongst fans.

Talking about Fellaini's injury, Mourinho said: "It's not an anterior cruciate ligament".

"It is not an ACL, a complete rupture of any structure of the knee", Mourinho added, "but we need him.

I don't want to be very specific, I would prefer the doctor to give you some information officially", Mourinho told a group of assembled media during his news conference. Probably we are going to lose him for a few weeks, but I can not say if it's two, three, four or five [weeks].

"I always remember when Sir Alex [Ferguson] said in 2005-06, when we won the second title with Chelsea: 'We need to improve a lot because they have raised the bar to such a level, '" Mourinho said.
