2 Cops Dead In Alleged Militant Firing Inside Srinagar Hospital Pak Terrorist Escapes

Before his arrest Jat had headed an LeT cell in Kashmir for two years, Bhat said. The prisoner's name is Naveed. The militants and the prisoner managed to flee the spot.

Two cops of Jammu Kashmir Police were killed while one terrorist managed to escape after the attack. They killed two Jammu and Kashmir policemen. "The police team could not retaliate because a large number of innocent people were present near the site of the hospital", Ghulam Hassan Bhat, central Kashmir's Deputy Inspector General of Police, told BenarNews. "The inquiry will be headed by a DIG-rank officer", he said. The ultras opened fire on the police party accompanying Jhutt, alias Abu Hanzala, outside the busy hospital in Kaka Sarai area, police said.

"The attack does not seem a surprise attack. They might have escaped from the rear of the hospital that connects with the government medical college".

"The doctors in the hospital had advised him a follow-up check after last visit". He said that in the months of October-November 2012, Naveed Bhatt along with seven other highly trained Pakistani terrorists were launched to Valley from Athmuqam Farkian in Kupwara Sector.

The incident took place when he was being escorted by police officers for check up at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital in Srinagar.

Sources said the unsuspecting pistol-borne attackers were wearing long woolen cloaks (pherans) while waiting for Jatt to arrive.

The police also checked the footage of Central Jail to get clues about the incidents.

He said the militants reached their hideouts safely after carrying out the attack.

Jutt was second in command of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group at the time of his arrest.

He called the episode as the "apex of Mujahideen's strategy, planning and commitment to their cause".

Lashkar spokesperson Dr. Abdullah Ghazanwi in a statement issued to GNS quoted Shah as saying that LeT accomplished this "historic" task and left the Indian security forces to face "unforgettable humiliation". He was also involved in an attack on the Army in Hyderpora in Srinagar and an attack on the Silver Star hotel along the national highway outside Srinagar.
