"We are aware of the request and are in the process of determining specific details".
President Trump has spoken of his desire for a grand military parade since the early days of his presidency. His captivation with the show of force apparently came after his visit to France, where he was a guest for the nation's Bastille Day celebrations, which included a grand display of France's military equipment.
Trump had spoken with French President Emmanuel Macron and said the Bastille Day parade was "one of the greatest parades I've ever seen". "To a large extent because of what I witnessed we may do something like that on July 4 in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue".
"We're going to have to try and top it [Bastille Day], but we had a lot of planes going over and we had a lot of military might", he pointed out.
Military parades outside of holidays such as Veterans Day, the Fourth of July or Memorial Day aren't typical in this country in recent decades, but there is a history of them.
"The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France", a military official. "We'll send them up to the White House for decision".
The White House said on Tuesday it had asked the Pentagon to explore a celebration of "America's great service members", after the Republican president marveled at the Bastille Day military parade he attended in Paris a year ago.
"With the completion of the Afghanistan combat mission expected at the end of this year, and with Iraq's official end far behind us, it's time for NY to stake its claim and for the Department of Defense to join in planning this welcome home celebration".
According to the Post, no date has been selected, but officials are considering July 4, Memorial Day on May 28, and Veterans Day on November 11.
That said, Maj. David Eastburn, a Pentagon spokesperson, told BuzzFeed News that the Pentagon would be giving Trump and co. recommendations on how to proceed. John Kennedy of Louisiana said he does not like the idea.
Transgender people were able to openly join the military from last month, after a court blocked Trump's ban from coming into effect.
They heard about the parade along with the rest of the world. The US is now still mired in the longest war in its history as the Afghanistan war enters its 17th year, and US troops are now engaged in combat operations in several countries.
The proposed route for the parade would take it down Pennsylvania Avenue and past Trump's D.C. hotel.
Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) also called for a military parade, though there were some differences between then and now. "We're not North Korea, we're not Russian Federation, and we're not China and I don't want to be".
If our head of state wants to put on a similar military parade here to flatter himself and project his power, why not waste more taxpayer money by having a True Trump Parade that displays everything he really admires?
