White House Staff Secretary Resigns Over Abuse Allegations

White House staff secretary Rob Porter resigns after his ex-wives accuse him of abuse

Mr Porter rejected the allegations in a statement read by the White House press secretary on Wednesday.

Next is Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director who lasted less than two weeks on the job and was sacked last July after he went off on fellow top White House staffers in a conversation with a New Yorker reporter he says he did not know was on the record. "I took the photos given to the media almost 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described", Porter's statement on Wednesday explained, in part.

One statement offered a strong defense of Porter, while another was less robust and carried a sharply different tone as Porter faces allegations of abuse from his two former wives.

Porter denied the accusations but said he was stepping down, although it's unclear when he will leave.

Porter said he would resign when the allegations against him were first published by The Daily Mail on Tuesday, people close to him say, even as he told White House officials he had never physically abused women.

The allegations against Porter by his ex-wives were first reported by the DailyMail.com, and senior West Wing aides spent part of Wednesday morning preparing for the fallout from his departure.

His second wife, Jennifer Willoughby, has also coming forward with claims of abuse. "Less than two months after that, I filed a protective order with the police because he punched in the glass on our front door while I was locked inside". But he will take his place in that White House tomorrow beside John Kelly, working for a president whose first wife once accused him of rape, working for a president who is a self-confessed sexual assaulter who was caught on video bragging about his preferred methods of sexual assault.

At one event in the East Room, for example, Mr Porter stood in the back of the room and gestured to the president, showing him where he was supposed to go in order to sign documents. The article was published with photos appearing to depict Holderness with a bruised eye and a copy of the protective order. "I am praying for Rob and those involved". My staff loved him and he was a trusted adviser.

Porter could leave the White House as early as Thursday.

Porter was an influential aide in the White House who vetted everything that made it to the president's desk. "He is a friend, a confidant and a trusted professional". The official disputed the assertion that Kelly knew all of these details for months, though other sources told CNN he was aware. Since Hatch had a close relationship with Porter, he issued a statement "attacking this smear campaign". "I am proud to serve alongside him".

Neither Ms Holderness nor Ms Willoughby could be reached for comment on Wednesday.

Thorp also asked Hatch whether he would employ Porter if the allegations are true, and Hatch refused to answer. Holderness provided photos of her facial injuries to the media.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said she had not discussed the allegations against Mr Porter with Mr Trump. I'm telling the Federal Bureau of Investigation this is what he's done, and Jennie Willougbhy is telling me them what he's done, and the White House says, sure this is OK?
