Windows 10: Could Progressive Web Apps finally fix Microsoft Store's software shortfall?

“Downloadable” Websites Or PWAs For Windows 10 Are Coming To Microsoft Store

In addition to giving Windows 10 S users a password-less experience, the latest version of Insider Preview also enables HDR video playback in more computers.

Build 17093, which Microsoft released to Fast Ring PC testers on February 7, includes this new button, as well as a few other tweaks and lots of fixes. Within this dialogue you can manage the graphics performance preference of your apps similar to the profile settings you might have used in graphics control panels from AMD and Nvidia.

Microsoft has announced that the next major update to Windows 10 this Spring will add Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) to the Store. However, it's unclear when, or indeed if Microsoft plans to roll out these updates to the greater Windows 10 install base. However, it is only available for Windows 10S and users of the said OS have the option to unlock their devices suing their Android or iOS devices.

Find the Advanced graphics settings in the Settings System Display section and then you will see the dialogue box above. Microsoft says that "applications are always allowed to have the ultimate choice of which GPU to use", and thus you might still be able to / want to adjust preferences within some specific applications.

Other new features in this Build include an HDR calibration tool to improve compatibility in more displays, a more honed eye control experience for those who struggle to use a mouse, an update Game bar that improves access to your recordings and toggle your webcam and mic.

Windows 10's Microsoft Store has always been criticized for its rather lacklustre selection of apps. You can also now print web pages without ads and unnecessary clutter from the web.

The software giant has also incorporated basic privacy measures, including being able to delete data gathered by the Diagnostic Data Viewer, which was installed by the Windows Insider Build 17983.

Bluetooth has been debugged, there's a full-screen mode for the Edge browser if you like that sort of thing, and predictive text can now cope with multiple languages.
