Olympian Lindsey Vonn Is Just Like the Rest of Us When It Comes to Flight Delays

Lindsey Vonn's Comeback Gets Poetic In New Olympic Under Armour Ad

Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn is on her way to South Korea for the Winter Olympics, but only after encountering a series of delays.

"In Lenzerheide I was emotional and crying and frustrated and not really myself so that was a sign to me that I was just a little bit too exhausted", she said of her final giant slalom World Cup race before the Games, where she finished seventh. She won a gold in the downhill and a bronze in the super-G at Vancouver in 2010.

"I want so badly to do well for him", Vonn said.

"On any World Cup it's hard to predict the victor... but here there's one downhill every fourth year and then it really gets a lot of focus and if there's a prize you remember it longer".

"Sometimes I think maybe I can't keep up with the best guys like I was years before, but I still try to believe and to give my best".

"I would like to compete in everything but I'm not sure if I'm going to have the energy to do that", she said.

Vonn has had her share of injuries in her career, including the knee operation that kept her out of Sochi but she says she is in good shape now - even if she has to incorporate maintenance work into her regular training. Because the men go first, Vonn was able to march in her first Opening Ceremony since 2002. The gold medal from the Sochi Games four years ago at age 18, a trinket she wrapped in a sock for safe keeping.

"In 2010 I was a much healthier athlete but in 2018 I am a much stronger athlete". My main focus this year was exclusively on the Olympics and I'm very happy with how I feel physically, mentally. "I am skiing exceptionally well; I have a lot of confidence".

"I'm feeling much better, much more like myself", a relaxed Shiffrin told reporters on Saturday.

SHE'S the greatest female skier of all time, an ex-girlfriend of Tiger Woods and an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, who is desperate to take on the men in World Cup events. "I've had a lot of ups and downs since Vancouver, but I feel like I'm coming into these Olympics on a hot streak". She enjoys sleeping the majority of the day.

Vonn said she was questioning whether she was going to bring Lucy with her to PyeongChang because it's a long trip, "but she's always with me so I figured I need her for the most important event". "Even though he had more wins, he had a different schedule than her and had many more opportunities and different risk tolerance".

Vonn also is still in the hunt to break Stenmark's record and thinks she can exceed it next season. Everyone loved her at first, but then... I got Lucy, she travels with me everywhere.

She closed her eyes and paused, then spoke haltingly as she began crying.

Vonn said her increased mental strength really comes into play when she's in the starting gate.
