New Zealand ranked the highest in 2017 with a score of 89, with Denmark following at 88.

India has been ranked as 81 amongst 180 countries by the Transparency International in its just released Corruption Perceptions Index 2017.

The next highest scores in the region were given to Australia and Hong Kong, which tied at 13th place, Japan at 20th place and Taiwan at 29th. Santa Lucia lost 16 points and Bahrain lost 15 points, while Syria and Guinea saw their scores decline 12 and 8 points over the same period respectively.

The TI found that nearly all journalists killed since 2012 were killed in corrupt countries.

Belying Modi government assertions, India has fallen further in rankings in the annual corruption index, released by Berlin-based non-government organisation Transparency International (TI).
