Veteran cornerback Sean Smith headed to jail following release from Raiders

Sean Smith will be released by Oakland Raiders
He was selected in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
The franchise agreed to a three-year contract Tuesday with tight end Derek Carrier, a source said. In five National Football League seasons with Los Angeles, Washington and the San Francisco 49ers, he has 36 catches for 327 yards and a touchdown across 50 games (15 starts). He has been coached by Jay Gruden, Jon's younger brother, and Sean McVay, who's patterned much of his offense and way of operating after Jon. He would be waived by the Raiders months later before being added by the Philadelphia Eagles to their practice squad. The 30-year-old played well for the Raiders down the stretch last season, after a year and a half of disappointing production. He has since spent time with San Francisco and Washington and played last season with the Los Angeles Rams, catching eight passes for 71 yards.
Smith allowed just 15 catches on 27 targets for 202 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions over the final six games for a passer rating of 64.1 as Pagano better took advantage of Smith's size and strength. At 6-foot-3 and 238 pounds, receiving isn't Carrier's meal ticket, but he is a far better route runner than Smith is at this stage of the two players' careers.
The Raiders also have tight end Jared Cook under contract for next season at a base salary of $5 million and Clive Walford at a base figure of $1.9 million, according to spotrac.com.
