England coach Eddie Jones has apologised "unreservedly" after a video emerged on Wednesday in which he made derogatory remarks regarding both Ireland and Wales.

However, since this afternoon's press conference, World Rugby made a statement, conceding there was an "oversight" and that Nigel Owens will now stand in as assistant referee.

Warren Gatland has warned England they could face an extended slump if they do no beat Ireland at Twickenham on Saturday.

"I'm not exactly sure what they were", said Schmidt when asked about the video, which showed Jones during a talk on leadership for Fuso, the Japanese parent company of England sponsors Mitsubishi.

England ceded the Six Nations title they have held for the past two years with a round to spare after losing 22-16 to France in Paris last Saturday.

Marius van der Westhuizen has been stood down from assistant refereeing duties for Ireland's Grand Slam clash, after attending an England training session.

The English Rugby Football Union said it would also apologize to the Irish and Welsh unions for comments that may yet count against Jones if he ever wants to coach the British and Irish Lions.

"We need to get on the front foot against Ireland and we've selected a team to do that", said Jones.

"I sincerely mean that and I really don't have anything else to say on the matter". "I'm happy to answer questions on the game coming up, but the other matter is dead".

Jones also reshaped the back-row after tournament-ending injuries to Nathan Hughes and Courtney Lawes.

Ireland's focus on winning a game of rugby on Saturday afternoon will not be undermined by anything - from a sense of occasion to some ill-advised, historic comments. We'll get that back, we'll get that back don't worry.

Two successive defeats have seen the team's progress stall under Jones, who since taking over in 2015 has masterminded a record of 24 wins from 27 Tests. So it's this little shit place that has got three million people.

"If you talk about hate and you talk about rubbing people's nose in the dirt, and all those sorts of things, it incites certain behaviours", Jones said. But we'll get that back, we'll get that back.
